the only thing wrong with Chuck

May 23, 2009

I need to get this off my chest.

I absolutely and totally adore the show Chuck, and if you don’t watch it, you should. It just got picked up for another 13 episodes, which is fantastic because there was serious danger of that not happening (thank you, Jay Leno). But I can’t hold this in any longer, because I can’t keep faking it when my friends who watch the show are so much more into this character than I am. Okay, here I go.

SARAH WALKER IS BORING.

There! I said it! She’s boring! She has no personality! She’s totally one note! It’s not the actress’s fault, it’s the writing. She’s written so that she’s just the CIA agent who is hot and can beat up bad people. That’s ALL SHE DOES. Chuck only likes her because she’s hot, and because she has saved his life repeatedly. She obviously cares about him, but in REAL LIFE their relationship would not work out because they have nothing in common. Okay? THAT IS JUST HOW I FEEL.

I don’t care at all about whether or not they get together because I don’t believe their relationship is real. I don’t feel like Sarah has done anything at all to prove to the audience that she has her own personality beyond being a CIA agent. There’s no reason why she likes Chuck, except that sometimes he does awesome things. Usually on accident. And this isn’t me being jealous, for the record – Chuck is a fictional character. I don’t have a chance with him. I just think he is way more interesting and funny and cool than Sarah, and he deserves someone who is at least as interesting. And personally, they haven’t convinced me with Sarah.

But other than that the show is amazing and you should watch it, because you would like it.
